Endocrine Surgery Oxford

Welcome to Endocrine Surgery Oxford the website of Mr Greg Sadler, Consultant Endocrine Surgeon, Oxford UK.

Mr Sadler is an internationally recognised surgeon, specialising in Endocrine Surgery for over 23 years.

Oxford is the largest endocrine surgery unit in the United Kingdom with two full time surgeons performing over 300 specialist endocrine surgery procedures a year. Procedures include parathyroid, thyroid and adrenal surgery.

Mr Sadler has performed in excess of 1200 parathyroidectomy operations, was the first surgeon in the UK to introduce minimally invasive parathyroidectomy (MIP) and has the largest published UK experience in this technique. He has written numerous articles on parathyroid surgery, including a BMJ Editorial and a paper on symptom improvement after parathyroid surgery.

Over 95% of parathyroid surgery patients are now treated as day surgery patients in Oxford, with local anaesthetic surgery being increasingly preferred for minimally invasive parathyroidectomy.

Over the past 10 years Mr Sadler has pioneered the development the use of the Harmonic Scalpel in thyroid surgery. He was the first UK surgeon to use the technology for thyroid surgery and now performed or supervised over 1000 procedures with the Harmonic Scalpel. For 6 years he organised an international course to teach other thyroid surgeons in its use.

Since 2001 (when first presented at the British Endocrine Surgery meeting), Oxford has led the UK in the development of short stay surgery, with patients being discharged the same day for parathyroid surgery, or within 23 hours for thyroid surgery. We now have experience in over 1500 patients experiencing short stay thyroid or parathyroid surgery.
